Catan is a competitive resource-trading board game in which players settle an island by building roads, settlements, and cities while racing to 10 victory points. Resource production depends on dice rolls and board position, so players must balance expansion, negotiation, and timing. Its modular hex board and player trading helped make it one of the defining gateway strategy games.
