How the shelf scan works
Point your camera at a shelf, or upload a photo you already have. A vision model reads the box titles it can see and matches them to the catalog, so you confirm a grid instead of typing in game after game.
Tips for a clean scan
- One shelf at a time. A single row reads more reliably than a whole bookcase in one shot.
- Good, even light. Bright light without glare on the boxes helps the titles come through.
- Get the titles in frame. Whether it is covers or spines, aim for the text to be roughly level and readable.
- Cut the glare. Shrink-wrap and gloss can reflect light, so a slight angle usually helps.
When the scan comes back, deselect anything it got wrong and the rest land on your Shelf as owned. Titles it could not place are listed so you can add them yourself.
Shelfie questions, answered
How accurate is the shelf scan?
It reads clearly visible titles well. Angled spines, glare on shrink-wrap, and very small text are harder, which is why every scan ends with a confirm step before anything is added.
Does it read box spines, or does the front cover need to show?
Either works, as long as the title text is legible. Spines are fine when they face out and are reasonably lit.
What if it misreads or misses a game?
You confirm every scan before it is saved. Deselect anything wrong, and titles we could not match are flagged so you can add them by hand.
How many games can I scan at once?
A single shelf per photo gives the best read. For a full bookcase, scan it a shelf at a time.
What happens to my photo?
The photo is used to read the titles on your shelf. It is not posted anywhere or shown on your profile, and only the games you confirm are added.
